Artist Profile

Dave Pic’kell

My love for pottery began in Southern California in 1969. From the first time I put my hand on a wet ball of clay and turned on the potter’s wheel, I was hooked. After working with high-fired functional stoneware for 25 years, I made a transition to Saggar-fired pottery sixteen years ago.

The attraction to saggar-ware is the partnership it gives me with nature. I can decide the Size, shape and nature of the pot’s features. It’s always a surprise to open the kiln door and See what I have created.
